Last spring, Logisticon, in collaboration with Sweco, realized the first inDENSE® installation in the Netherlands at the Terneuzen sewage treatment plant. The patented inDENSE® technology focuses on sludge selection by means of cyclones to improve the sludge’s settleability. With the cyclones, a continuous selection of the heavier sludge fraction takes place, which improves the settleability of the sludge (low sludge volume index) and makes it more constant (no spring peaks). The bio-P capacity also increases.
By implementing the inDENSE® technology, a substantial investment in an additional secondary settling tank can be avoided. The inDENSE® technology is built into the existing sludge line, without interruption of the process. Return sludge is picked up from an existing sludge pit, after which it is pumped to the cyclones. The solid fraction (the sludge that settles more easily) is returned to the treatment plant. The thin fraction (the less easily settleable sludge) leaves the treatment plant via the sludge line.
Benefits of inDENSE®:
– Better sludge settleability – higher hydraulic load system
– Improved biological phosphate removal
– Low investment
– Very compact system, requires little space
– Low energy consumption and no chemical consumption
With the inDENSE® process, the sludge volume index is permanently reduced, which significantly increases the capacity of the treatment plant. The first results are promising. Long-term monitoring will reveal how the cyclones function over the seasons. With a low CAPEX, a considerable profit can be achieved.
