Standard gearboxes are usually designed to allow a wide range of gear ratios and thus speeds. At the same time, they are sufficiently dimensioned in terms of component safety for the expected engine power. These expected standard requirements are also taken into account by the bearings. If the forces on the output shaft exceed the capabilities of a gearbox, a switch is usually made to a larger gearbox. This is because a standard housing does not allow for a larger bearing clearance and there are also limits to the size of the bearings. This increases costs unnecessarily.
Especially for pump, agitator and mixing applications with process-related high radial and axial loads, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS offers application-specific equipment options that are characterised by high performance and economy. The equipment variants include an agitator version (VL2 bearing) with a large bearing clearance and a reinforced bearing, as well as a drywell version (VL3 bearing) with an additional oil drop plate and a leakage oil indicator or oil sensor. The distance between the bearings in the VL2 and VL3 bearing arrangements is increased by means of add-on parts, the size of the gear unit remains constant. NORD also offers the use of very large bearings which are deliberately oversized for applications such as pumps or agitators.
